Built on the success of the original 'StaffWars', StaffWars Live offers a gameplay experience designed to assist students in instrumental practice. Players can select their instrument, key signature, scale, and note range to engage with the staff and eliminate the appearing notes using their instrument, preventing any damage to their clef. As players progress, the notes increase in speed after every ten correct answers, and they are provided with three lives to maintain their performance.
By accessing the "Settings" button, players have the ability to modify their instrument, scale, key signature, and adjust the note range according to their preferences. All notes within the game are represented in the instruments' written pitch. For instance, if one chooses the clarinet in C major, the corresponding concert pitch will be Bb Major.
All scores are automatically saved when exiting the game, enabling players to monitor their improvement over time. Furthermore, StaffWars Live offers a wide range of scales to practice, including Major, Major Blues, Minor Blues, and Chromatic scales.
For musicians needing to practice transposition, StaffWars Live provides a solution. By selecting an instrument such as the French horn and choosing 'Trumpet,' players can practice transposing to Bb.
In addition, it is possible to connect any MIDI device to trigger the game via MIDI.
A note of caution - before playing StaffWars Live, ensure that your instrument is tuned correctly. It is highly recommended to play with good attacks and good tone. As the game sounds may trigger pitch detection, it is advisable to lower the volume on your iPhone/iPad while playing with the sound turned on.
